Hamlet Character analysis. Discuss how ghost in the play “Hamlet” acts as a driving force.

Inception

English playwright, poet, and actor, widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language is William Shakespeare. He was baptized on 26 April 1564, and He died on 23 April 1616 at the age of 52 in England. “Hamlet” is a famous tragedy by William Shakespeare, probably written between 1599 and 1601; published between 1601 and 1603. The play has been described as a revenge tragedy.

Ghost in the play Hamlet

The ghost here is Hamlet’s father’s ghost which acts as a driving force. Because Hamlet understood nothing and could not take a turn in the incident properly when his father dies, his father’s ghost pushes it to a turning point.

 

In the play after the death of Hamlet’s father, Hamlet’s mother Gertrude married Hamlet’s uncle Claudius very quickly. Hamlet was stunned to see that and he couldn’t understand anything. To break his confusion, Hamlet’s father returns as a ghost to inform him. The ghost of Hamlet’s father meets Hamlet. The ghost of his father informs him that his brother Claudius killed him, and married his wife, Gertrude.

Hamlet’s father’s ghost tells Hamlet to avenge his death. In order to break the confusion and conflict in Hamlet’s mind, his father speaks of the shameful lust between Hamlet’s mother and uncle. Hamlet, hearing the description of his father’s death from his father’s ghost.

Hamlet Character analysis

Hamlet uses a strategy to find out if his father’s ghost is telling the truth at all. He decides to stage a play, where he tries to tell the story of how her father was killed. Claudius and Gertrude are shocked to see the story of the play. Hamlet then realizes that Claudius and his mother Gertrude are his father’s murderers. Hamlet decides to avenge his father’s murder.

From the above discussion, we understand that Hamlet was very confused after the death of Hamlet’s father. When the ghost breaks Hamlet’s confusion, the ghost gives a very good push to the play and acts as a driving force. With the ghost of Hamlet’s father’s information, the incident could not have taken a complete turn. The drama has a big impact on each character due to the actions of Hamlet’s father’s ghost.
